We’ve been getting questions about the product line – in particular, “Are we discontinuing the original ClearNode ?”

Absolutely not ! We intend to continue producing ClearNode, ClearZero and ClearRPT. The problem is that we are at the mercy of component availability – right now the issue is with the Raspberry Pis. In December we were able to get a bulk supply of the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W (albeit at an inflated price), so that’s what we are able to manufacture at the moment.

The advice from the Raspberry Pi Foundation, such as it is, is that they will be focussing 2022 production on the Raspberry Pi 4 and the Raspberry Pi 3B, but not the 3B+, apparently there is some commonality in chips between the 3B+ and the 4. We are actively moving the physical design over to the Pi 4 – but, again, there’s no bulk supply, so it’s a waiting game.

We are still accepting your Pi 3B and 3B+ devices for custom builds.

All these machinations are making us far less efficient in production and cost control, so we ask for your patience – the hope is that the 2nd Qtr of 2022 we will start to see some relief – fingers crossed …

You might be interested to hear that Raspberry Pi’s are manufactured via “contract manufacturing” at several sites around the world. Given the low price of the Raspberry Pi, it doesn’t take much imagination to understand why they are struggling to get product to market – they are competing with all of the high value product industry for manufacturing resources.
